my approach

grieve lost futures
While radical imagination is a beautiful and powerful practice, attachment to imagined futures can prevent us from responding effectively to the present moment. Many of us never learned to grieve in ways that create space for joy to come back into our lives. A deep and supported grief process can be transformative and help you feel alive again.
escape overwhelm
I can help you identify your spheres of influence and re-center yourself within them to recover your sense of agency. It's difficult, but possible to find a manageable relationship to taking in disturbing information without going all the way to avoidance or denial. It is possible to be in true solidarity with others without feeling every drop of their pain as if it were your own. These days it can feel like the ground is constantly shifting underneath you, we can identify sources of trust and stability within the chaos.
find meaning and joy
What actually makes for a life worth living? Over and over, I find that when I help people confront this question, they find that the things that make life worth living can be found in even the worst imagined futures or present day realities. My experience working with survivors of torture and trafficking has taught me just how possible it is to find meaning, joy, and loving connection even under extreme circumstances. You don't have to choose between realism and a good life.
What Can I Expect?
This work tends to be non-linear and individualized to your personal history and social location. I'm living many of these challenges right alongside you, but during our sessions you can count on me to be the strong one so that you can allow yourself to be afraid, uncertain, or out of ideas. I often share resources and practices that have helped me and others. Whether you've known how bad things as long as you can remember or only recently started to feel scared, I will meet you where you're at with gentleness, respect, and guidance. I have been doing anti-oppressive education and mentorship since 2015 and have led hundreds of people from so many different life experiences through a process of grief and empowerment in relation to injustice. I have experience as a community organizer and love helping people find sustainable ways to live in alignment with their values.
